In 1972 there stood a little gift shop opened by Waterman’s original owner, Helen Standing, called The Beach Nut. In her quaint boutique Helen specialized in finding out-of-the-ordinary beach treasures. A short while later…and a couple of kids later…Helen closed the shop to focus all of her energy on her expanding brood and her popular restaurant which was then called Fogg’s. And so the story goes Fogg’s wanted to capture the feel of life at the waters’ edge and appropriately changed its name to Waterman’s. For three stubborn generations, Waterman’s has been the locals’ favorite for oceanfront dining and the freshest seafood this side of the Atlantic.

In 2007 Waterman’s renovated and Mariah Standing, part of the third generation of the Standing Family resurrected the Beach Nut Gift Boutique in all its glory – complete with global treasures with a nautical flair – specializing in jewelry, hard to find handbags, childrens’ toys and must-have nursery gear.
